The following Customer Policies and Procedures are to create a clear and effective safe working environment. As Bay Marine Maintenance is a compact yard it is paramount to uphold all policies and procedures below. This will ensure:

  • Health and safety for contractors, customers, visitors, and the Bay Marine Maintenance workforce.
  • Yard remains free of obstructions without hindrance to the Travel Lifter operations.
  • Yard remains free of debris.
  • The minimised risk of damaging vessels

Safety Induction and Site Rules

Please complete the and provide a signed copy of this document with relative information to Bay Marine Maintenance before working on site. Please contact the HSE Advisor on the number provided below with any questions regarding the induction process or policies and procedures. Prior to first time arrival on site and commencement of works, customers must:

  • Fill out details in this document.
  • Provide Certificate of currency (N/A if RPYC Member)
  • Provide Contractor details (N/A if Bay Marine Maintenance or no contractor required)
  • Adhere to terms and conditions as set out in this document.

Approved contractors

All contractors performing works on site must be approved by Bay Marine Maintenance before undertaking any works (‘approved contractors’). Contractor details are required if the representative is of another business other than Bay Marine Maintenance.

Working on site

Each time you arrive on site, you will need to report to the Bay Marine Maintenance front Office to sign in and sign out. If office is unattended, you may call contacts below:

Site access is 7.00am – 4.00pm (Monday to Friday)

Customers may request to work on their own private vessel outside these hours. Access is at the discretion of HSE Advisor and needs to be approved by ticket issue. Ticket must be requested and issued during business hours and kept on hand whilst onsite.

Authorised Access Only

  • You will be provided with a ticket to access the site.
  • If you have not been issued a ticket for access, you will not be permitted to enter the site.

Working on site

  • Due to ongoing Health, Safety and Environment (‘HSE’) requirements, only Bay Marine Maintenance, Vessel Owners / Helpers or Approved Contractors are permitted to undertake works on site.
  • Only Bay Marine Maintenance is permitted to undertake spray painting on site. Spray painting is strictly prohibited however can be outsourced to Bay Marine Maintenance personnel.
  • The HSE Advisor’s approval is required to proceed with all works.
  • It is the responsibility to ensure that vessels are adequately screened off impacting adjacent boats, personnel, other work areas or the environment.
  • Customers working on their vessels will be liable for any damage to third party’s vessels caused by works carried out caused by themselves.
  • Customers working on their own vessels assume their own risk of injury, unless caused by the sole negligence of Bay Marine Maintenance. (An individual acknowledges and accepts that they are taking on the potential dangers or hazards associated with a particular activity or situation. It implies that they understand the risks involved and are willing to bear the consequences themselves if they suffer any injury or harm as a result.)

Safe Work Practices

  • You are required to observe the safe work practice requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020, the Work Health and Safety Regulations 2022, appropriate Australian Standards and Codes of Practice approved by State and Federal Occupational Health and Safety Commissions, as they apply to your tasks. You are required to observe the requirements of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the regulations as they apply to your tasks.
  • In particular, if you are required to use toxic or dangerous chemicals, paints, or cleaning agents, you must provide the necessary protective clothing and breathing apparatus, and ensure its use is properly supervised
  • You are to ensure that you are trained in the safe use of all equipment and tools required to carry out your tasks.
  • You are to ensure that you observe all safe work practices in relation to working in confined spaces, scaffolding, ladders or planks above ground level, and working at heights.

Activities and Requirements

Task Details
Water blasting
  • Water blasting is to be performed strictly in water blasting bay only.
  • Eye Protection must be worn at all times when performing blasting down of vessels.
Dry Sanding
  • Must be only performed with vacuum dust extraction fitting to power tools.
  • No soda blasting is permitted.
Spray Painting
  • Spray Painting of antifouling, paints and gel coat is not permitted.
  • Outsourcing of this task can be subcontracted through Bay Marine Maintenance.
Working at heights
  • Safety harnesses must be worn and secured at heights greater than 2.4m.
Machinery
  • Use of machinery equipment on site such as scissor lifts, cherry pickers, forklifts, cranes must be approved by Bay Marine Maintenance.
  • Use must be on a per day basis and not left on site. If applicable, operator must hold HRWL(High Risk Work License).
Scaffold
  • Customers can use Bay Marine Maintenance scaffold for individual use only (excludes contractors).
  • Personal scaffold is not to be left on site and must be removed at the end of the day.
  • Personal scaffold must be to the standard of local authorities and in good working order.
Ladders & Trolleys
  • Customers can use Bay Marine Maintenance Ladders.
  • Customers can use yard trolleys to assist with packing of equipment.
Parking
  • Strictly no parking allowed in hardstand area.
  • Strictly no trailers allowed in hardstand area.
  • Vehicles are to be parked in marked car bays.
  • Drop off, pick up of items and use of assisted equipment to carry out tasks can be consulted with Bay Marine Maintenance.
Site Access
  • Monday to Friday 7.00am to 4pm.
  • Customers may request to work outside of these hours and is at the discretion of HSE Advisor and needs to be approved by ticket issue. Ticket must be kept on hand.
Checking in
  • Customers must check in and check out on every visit at Bay Marine Maintenance front office.
Provision of tools
  • Customers to provide their own tools and equipment including power leads (tested and tagged).
Boat Stands
  • Do not move or relocate vessel supports.
Cleaning of Works Area
  • Hardstand work areas must be kept clean and tidy with prompt removal of all garbage. It is the responsibility of the customer to remove all their rubbish and debris from site.
